Thai citizens have received a cautionary alert regarding forthcoming severe weather conditions from May 27 to May 30. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that covers all regions of the country, urging people to stay updated. Anucha Burapachaisri, the Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, acting as the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, informed that the Meteorological Department’s warning predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand during the aforementioned period, along with strong winds in the Andaman Sea. He emphasized the need for people to exercise caution due to the potential risks associated with such intense rainfall and accumulated precipitation.

Anucha further explained that the Meteorological Department has announced the intensification of the prevailing southwest monsoon over Thailand from May 27 to May 30. This will coincide with a low-pressure system originating in Vietnam, which will traverse through Thailand and continue into the Gulf of Martaban and Myanmar. Consequently, this combination of weather phenomena will result in increased rainfall, strong winds, and heavy to very heavy precipitation in various areas. Regions affected include the lower northern regions, northeastern regions, central regions (including Bangkok and its surrounding areas), eastern regions, and southern regions. People residing in these areas should exercise caution and be mindful of the potential hazards posed by heavy to very heavy rainfall, such as sudden floods and forest runoffs, particularly in close proximity to steep slopes, waterways, and low-lying areas.
