A young lieutenant from Thailand experienced a rapid deterioration of his newlywed life after just seven days of marriage to a nurse he met through a dating app. Their story was shared online, raising suspicions that the man was deceived into paying a significant dowry.

The lieutenant, named Sutha (last name withheld), who is 28 years old, has disclosed the details of his short-lived marriage to a young nurse whom he met through a dating app earlier this year. Despite being married for only seven days, his wife abruptly cut off all communication with him. It has now been revealed that their rushed union may have been a scheme to extract a substantial dowry from him.

Sutha explained that he connected with the woman on a dating app, and they started conversing before exchanging phone numbers. Despite the brevity of their courtship, they decided to commit to marriage and held a small wedding ceremony in Buriram province, attended only by close relatives. The woman’s family requested a dowry of 200,000 baht (US$5,752) and two baht of gold, which Sutha and his father willingly provided.

However, things took a sudden turn when, just 15 days after their engagement, the bride’s family proposed expediting the wedding and accepting a reduced dowry of 100,000 baht (US$2,874) and one baht of gold. Initially confused by this sudden change, Sutha eventually agreed to the new terms.

As he recounted their wedding day, Sutha revealed that the ceremony was rushed to the extent that the photographer could not capture many pictures, leaving him and some guests doubtful. Following the marriage, his new wife became unresponsive for several days before expressing her desire to end the marriage due to unhappiness.

In a recent Facebook post, Sutha shared that he visited his wife’s workplace, where she insisted on terminating their marriage. He cautioned others to be cautious in similar situations.

Having paid a total of over 180,000 baht (US$5,173) to the bride’s family, including the dowry and other expenses, Sutha is now planning to take legal action against his estranged wife for fraud. The heartbroken lieutenant admitted that despite his investment of time and love in the relationship, it would be best to bring it to an end.
