The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a storm alert today covering 42 provinces in the northern and southern regions. Approximately 60% of this area is anticipated to receive heavy precipitation, prompting a warning to residents about potential flash floods and swift runoff. This warning will remain in effect until 6am tomorrow.

Currently, the southwest monsoon is affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, while an easterly and south-easterly breeze is sweeping through the lower northeastern region. Consequently, some parts of the north are experiencing significant rainfall, posing a danger to inhabitants in these areas.

The accumulated rainfall could result in sudden flash floods and swift runoff, especially in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying regions. Motorists are also advised to exercise caution when driving in areas undergoing thunderstorms.

In the lower northeastern region, thunderstorms are expected to affect 40% of the area, particularly in Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Buri Ram. Temperature-wise, this region is similar to the north, with variable winds blowing at speeds of 10-20 kilometers per hour.
