A 35-year-old man with a drug addiction problem was apprehended by residents in Udon Thani when he tried to steal power cables, resulting in a blackout in four houses. The man, who seemed disoriented and unstable, confessed that his motivation was a strong craving for alcohol and the need for money to buy it.

This reckless act by Suradech was initially noticed by a local resident named Tor, who saw sparks coming from a transformer just as his own home lost power. Upon investigating, Tor found Suradech attempting to disconnect the power cables linked to the transformer. Other residents, also affected by the blackout, joined Tor in catching the culprit.

According to Pornphet Chaneider, the 52-year-old village chief of Non Khamin, Suradech has been grappling with a severe drug addiction for an extended period. Despite his family’s attempts to send him to rehabilitation three times, Suradech’s condition has not improved. It is believed that he intended to sell the stolen cables to finance his drug habit.

The village chief also disclosed that Suradech’s addiction has had dire consequences for his family. He has sold their home’s assets, including the roof and valuable belongings, to purchase drugs. His parents, fearing for their safety, were compelled to build a new residence elsewhere due to his violent threats.

Suradech’s recent act of stealing power cables has been addressed by authorities at Udon Thani’s Police Station, who have taken him into custody for further legal proceedings. This incident, which occurred yesterday, has put the local community on high alert.

Suradech used to work as a motorcycle mechanic, but his addiction has driven him to desperate actions. His actions have caused significant distress and inconvenience to the community, not to mention the fear he has instilled in his parents.
