A collision occurred on the Nong Bua Lamphu-Nonsang District Road in Thailand’s Nong Bua Lamphu province involving a Thai man driving a pickup and an electric tricycle. The incident resulted in the tragic death of a 5-year-old girl named Por and caused injuries to a 20-year-old woman. According to reports, the electric tricycle made a sudden turn, leading to the collision at approximately 11:30 am on December 16.
Upon police arrival at the bridge where the collision occurred, they found the electric tricycle severely damaged, with its parts scattered on the road. Witnesses reported the 20-year-old rider of the tricycle was injured and taken to the hospital, while the young girl, Por, was initially missing from the scene.
A search by authorities and rescuers eventually located Por in a nearby forest, approximately 15 meters away from the accident site. Unfortunately, she had sustained a severe head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The black Isuzu pickup involved in the accident was found parked on the bridge, displaying impact marks on its front bumper. The driver, identified as a Thai man named Thanawat, surrendered himself at the scene. His wife and child were also present in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Thanawat claimed that the driver of the electric tricycle suddenly veered into his path, making it impossible for him to avoid the collision. Despite this, he declined to release the dashcam footage or provide additional interviews to the media.
Witnesses supported Thanawat’s statement, affirming that they observed the woman on the tricycle turning right as the pickup approached. Local residents mentioned that the woman shouldn’t have been using the electric tricycle, which typically has a low speed, on that consistently busy road.
Later, the injured woman’s aunt arrived at the scene and informed the police that both the woman and 5-year-old Por had intended to pick her up near the plantation close to the accident site. However, after waiting for an extended period without their arrival, she noticed an emergency vehicle passing by and decided to investigate, leading her to the accident scene.
No charges had been filed by the police against either party at that point. Subsequently, both sides were summoned to the police station for questioning following an improvement in the woman’s condition.
