Sitting in the front of Jimmy’s Sport’s Café sipping possibly the coolest draught Leo in Issan, and at 60 baht a pint definitely the cheapest, I was in seventh heaven.
From there I was looking out on to Jira Road watching the world go by without a care in the world. I was thinking to myself this is just another day in paradise.
The Leo Selection

Having been established for over a year, Jimmy’s is recognised as one of the most popular meeting place for expats and their families.
The venue has a lot to offer. It is a bar, a restaurant and a café all rolled up into one package. So in effect offering you much more than the run of the mill eateries and beer bars in the area.
Jimmy, Noi and Cookie

The business is run by the genial and proud Scotsman Jimmy and his wife Noi. Jimmy looks after the front of house whilst Noi’s domain is the kitchen.
Jimmy’s Sports Cafe is situated on The Jira Road between the Rajabhat University and the Lively Night Market. The Café come bar/restaurant is a single floor unit covering two shop houses.
It is divided into two main seating areas, the front is open plan with several tables and chairs affording comfortable seating.
There is also a long bar with high stools for those who prefer a more upright posture. To ensure you ongoing comfort there are numerous ceiling fans which maintain the air temperature at a comfortable level.
The rear of the café is divided from the front by sliding glass doors, this is the main dining area which is air conditioned. Jimmy’s is open from 9am to 10pm or later if required.

The menu is fairly extensive without being over ambitious. It contains a mixture of western and Thai dishes all at competitive prices. On the western side you can choose from a selection of breakfast dishes, steaks, meat pies, curries, burgers, fried chicken and more. On the Thai side there are the traditional Thai curries, salads, noodles and a few others.

On this visit I opted for The Steak in a bun, my wife the bacon chop with beans and chips. My other guest opted for the Spaghetti Kee Mao.
The steak in a bun was everything I had hoped for, I was presented with a large bread bap filled with a large piece of well seasoned ribeye beef and topped with fried onions. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, it was tender and succulent and was complimented by crunchy fried onions all sandwiched in a beautiful bap, at 150 baht, great value.

My wife’s bacon chop was huge, she asked for it to be cooked medium and that is how it turned up. A generous portion of chips and beans also sat on the plate. She was full of praise for her meal. She said the chop was not too salty and was moist and flavoursome and at 180 baht again representing value.
Huge Bacon Chop

When the Spaghetti Kee Mao arrived I thought I may have made the wrong choice but being an avid meat eater the thought quickly went away.
However, the spaghetti looked appetising and smelt wonderful. The dish contained a selection of seafood in a spicy Thai sauce and tossed with the spaghetti.
An empty plate spoke volumes of my guest’s opinion of her food which was only 170 baht. With a few beers, a couple of soft drinks my bill came to only 750 baht for three people. This is without doubt value for money, great cooked food and generous portions made three satisfied customers.

Jimmy and Noi have recently introduced an ice cream menu where you can select from a variety of flavoured ices and sundaes.

To compliment any meal, or just to sit and enjoy, there are a variety of Italian coffees available all freshly brewed to order.
The Sport in Jimmy’s Sport’s Café represents the theme of the place. There are three large plasma televisions which show live sports when available and also following day replays for those who may have missed or want to see their favourites again.
For those of you who like dining out on special occasions Jimmy’s is the place. This year Jimmy has hosted a Burns Night Dinner as well as a Valentines diner when special menus were prepared and enjoyed by those who attended.
Sunday Lunch Time

Sundays are also special at Jimmy’s, a traditional Sunday Roast lunch is now available, for 250 baht you can have roast sirloin of beef with seasonal vegetables and yorkshire pudding.

Jimmy and Noi are looking forward to this year’s Christmas Festivities. They have prepared a Christmas Lunch menu which virtually sold out before it was officially announced but maybe they can squeeze a few more in.
In addition they are planning a New Years Eve party with a sit down meal and entertainment. When finalised details will be posted on their Facebook Page.

All in all Jimmy’s is a great place to visit, good value for money food and cold beer what more could a man ask for.
