Suvarnabhumi airport security has warned the public to take care when checking in for flights out of the kingdom
The warning came after the arrest of two Algerian men who were preying on people checking in for flights in the departure hall.
Kittipong Kittikhajorn of airport security said that passengers who were naturally concentrating on their passports during check-in often forgot about their wallets giving a window of opportunity for thieves operating at the airport.
He warned the travelling public to be especially vigilant at check-in.
Arrested yesterday were two Algerian men who had committed three thefts the previous day.
They were caught on CCTV after a passenger lost money, documents and credit cards.
The modus operandi of the two was to cruise the departure lounge looking for potential victims. They would approach someone checking in together and one would pretend to talk to the check-in staff dealing with them while the other would take the wallet.
They admitted that they had been thieving and it was indeed them on the CCTV. They have been detained as further evidence gathering continues.
The pair were arrested after they were spotted on the airport link train at the airport. They ran off but were apprehended on the third floor of the airport yesterday.
