Twenty golfers playing in five teams of four, took part in the Anzac Day Commemoration Golf Tournament organized by the Buriram Golf Society,in conjunction with Paddy’s Irish Bar and Outback Grill.

The competition was open to anyone and the teams were drawn out of a hat. It was a completely new format with no handicaps involved. The players in each team played as individuals with the best score on each hole counting as the team score.

Points were awarded as follows:-

Eagle-5pts, birdie-4pts, par-3pts, bogey (one over par) – 2pts and double-bogey – 1pt.

The first team went out at 7am and there was a welcome breeze throughout most of the morning. The format proved to be a hit with the players with everyone saying how much they enjoyed it.

The scoring was high considering the mixed ability of the players and the results can be seen below.

1st with 49 points :-

Malcom McKay, Dutch Holland, Lynn Thompson and Rene Nicole.

2nd with 47 points:-

Peter Dempsey, Keith Wood, Greg Miles and Pat Hukkleberg.

3rd with 45 points:-

4th with 41 points:-

Martin Moyle, Graham Dresser, Frank Barber and Roger Ribbins.

5th with 39 points:-

Colin Bradwell, Magnus Sundgren, Peter Hughes and Alex Low

There were also prizes for nearest-the-pin on holes 1&10 :-

Buriram Golf Society Vice-Captain Keith Wood with Greg Miles.

And on holes 6&15:-

Keith presenting Rod Young with his prize.

The presentation was held at Paddy’s Irish Bar and Outback Grill where the players and regulars enjoyed a good old “sausage sizzle” or for those fluent in Ozz-speak, a “snag fest”.

Rod and his “lovely assistant” taking a well-earned beer break from cooking !

The “snags” were excellent , thanks to Rod and his staff for keeping everyone supplied with the necessary ! Special thanks to Colin’s lady Mai for stepping in as a Paddy’s “employee’ for the day.

After the presentations were over it was just a matter of making sure the snags did not go to waste, which was achieved without any problem.

Enjoying the “tucker” !

For those that way inclined the annual big Aussie Rules footie match was on the tv , followed by a great game of Aussie Rugby League.

As a number of people made their way home, a few who obviously had no homes to go to, remained to take part in the cold-blooded murder of some of the greatest songs ever written. I’m sure the Earth must have been revolving just a little more quickly due to a number of famous performers spinning in their graves !

The party went on well into the night and thanks to everyone who took part in all the “activities” and of course thanks to Rod and You Tube (I think!). Thanks also to Buriram Times photographer Frank.

A big pat on the back to all the organizers for a great day.

PS:- Peter Dempsey my ears are STILL hurting !
