Danny Glass,29, from Margate in Kent is facing possible charges following the death of his pregnant girlfriend Sophie Emma Rose 41, formerly from Blackpool, when their Honda scooter was hit by an eighteen wheel truck in Phuket.
The accident happened on a busy dual-carriageway outside a 7-Eleven. Six months pregnant Sophie was riding pillion when Danny was forced to brake and lost control of the vehicle, causing Sophie to fall under the wheels of the truck.
A distraught Danny spoke on social media about the tragic loss of his girlfriend and unborn baby and of how he fears he may face charges. Either he or the truck driver will be charged as police try to put together the events leading up to the accident.
One version has the scooter pulling out to overtake a car that was parked in the motorbike lane and the truck ran into them.
Danny claims that he had to brake because a car in front had put on its brakes.
Police have questioned both drivers and have CCTV footage of the incident. First reaction from the police was that Mr Glass braked very sharply, causing him to lose control of the bike.
Initially, the lorry driver drove on for 2 kilometres, stating that there was nowhere for him to park the truck.
He said he heard a bang but did not see the bike. The driver eventually went to the police station to give a statement.
Sophie came to Thailand some time ago and has a 5 year-old son called Shaye. His father has travelled from Bangkok to Phuket to care for him. Shaye has been informed of his mother’s accident.
A tragic story to add to the still growing list of fatalities on Thailand’s roads.
