Drugs worth 4 billion bht seized.

Drug hauls valued at more than Bt4 billion have been seized during the past three weeks, national police Commissioner Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda announced Thursday.

He said police had confiscated 26 million methamphetamine tablets and more than 130 kilograms of crystal meth in just a few weeks.

“These tablets could fetch over Bt4 billion,” he said, adding the huge amount of crystal meth alone would have been worth Bt130 million in Thailand and up to Bt400 million overseas.

Police seized their biggest haul in recent times late Wednesday night in Nonthaburi province. The vehicle used by two suspects was found with 2.5 million methamphetamine tablets, 120 kilograms of crystal meth and guns.

“We had been monitored these two men for some time,” Chakthip revealed.

One of the two suspects had been jailed in 2005 following a drug conviction, Chakthip revealed, adding the man had apparently returned to the illicit drug trade after completing his term.

Around the time Chakthip held his press conference in Bangkok, senior officials announced a major drug bust in Nakhon Phanom province.

Nakhon Phanom Governor Somchai Witdamrong and the province’s police chief Pol Maj-General Suwicharn Yarnkittikul said suspect Sompong Wichayathornkul, 26, was arrested for having 199 kilograms of crystal meth with intention to sell.

Sompong has reportedly confessed that he was paid to deliver the crystal meth in Bangkok.
