The President John Noble and Chairman John Macdonald of Buriram Angling Club were invited by new member Henk junior, to a day’s fishing on his farm a few kilometres out of Buriram. Henk has three ponds of which two are about I rai each and 1.5 meters deep and contain hundreds of small catfish. The third pond of some 2.5 rai and 8 meters deep has numerous species of fish but again mainly catfish. All three ponds were fished using baits such as chicken liver, pork and bread on float and ledger.
While fishing there the local head man of the village came along and invited the guys to come and fish in the village pond which he said had not been fished for four years. The pond was only a short walk from Henk junior’s property. There they found a lovely pond of about 1.5 rai surrounded by large trees.
The water was crystal clear and was about 9 meters deep with very steep sides. The trio fished there for about 2 hours in which time John the chairman caught one small tilapia whilst President John won the day catching a good 4 kilo catfish not to speak of the ones that got away.
