Buriram celebrate Diogo’s stunning free-kick in their quest for the title.

Buriram took a massive step closer to the League title with a hard earned, but deserved 2-0 victory at Ratchaburi on Sunday. The first-half was scrappy with numerous free-kicks stopping the game from having any shape or flow.

The home side were the more guilty of the two and they succeeded in knocking Buriram off their stride and indeed had the better of the few chances created. However, it was a vastly different Buriram in the second period and the introduction of Supachok injected more life into Buriram’s attacks.

The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute when Diogo sent a stunning thirty-yard free-kick screaming into the top corner of the net. You would have to go a long way to see a better strike, a fantastic effort.

Buriram wrapped the game up in the 70th minute with a superb team goal. The ball was worked quickly down the right and Narubadin sent over a perfect cross for Jakkaphan to finish emphatically from close range.

Make no mistake, this game was a potential banana skin and to come away with three points was a great result. Buriram can wrap the title up by winning their next three games, Sukothai (H), Supanburi (A) and BEC Tero (H).

They have a six point lead over Muang Thong and even if they lose two of their last five games, the best their fierce rivals can do is draw level on points. Should that happen, the title would be decided on the head-to-head results between the two teams.

With Buriram having beaten and drawn with Muang Thong then they would be crowned champions. It would be some achievement after last season and the way Muang Thong started the present campaign.

However, the league table doesn’t lie and it would be wonderful to win the league against Tero at home . So come on Buriram, absolute concentration and get the job done !

Buriram are in action tonight (September 27) at Bangkok Glass in the FA Cup, 7pm and they then travel to Chonburi on Sunday October 1 in the League Cup.

There is then another break before they host Sukothai in the league on Saturday October 14, 7pm. They then travel to Suphanburi in the league on Sunday October 22,7pm.

The league is then suspended for the late King’s funeral before resuming on Wednesday November 8, 7pm when BEC Tero are the visitors. Next up is Bangkok United away on Sunday November 12, 7pm before the season concludes on Saturday November 18 with a visit to Chonburi, 7pm.
