Buriram put seven past a completely outclassed Chainat with an exhibition of attacking football that had their opponents chasing shadows. It could easily have been double that score with the woodwork and the Chainat keeper coming to the visitors’ rescue.
As I am in England , I have only seen the highlights but Buriram were outstanding and carried on from where they left off in midweek when they scored seven again to reach the League Cup semi-final. Incredibly, it was not enough to regain top spot as Muang Thong thrashed Navy 7-0 to maintain a one goal advantage on goal difference.
Macena hit a hat-trick and strikes by Korawit, Suchao, Diogo and Seul Ki completed the rout.Buriram opened the scoring in the nineteenth minute when Korawit headed in a right-wing corner. The Chainat keeper had already made several good saves.
Buriram continued to create chances at will but had to wait until three minutes before the interval to increase their lead It was a superbly crafted goal with Diogo running at the visitors’ defence before slipping the ball wide right for Narabudin to send over a perfect low cross which Suchao converted with ease.
Buriram were in total control but I don’t think anyone could foresee the carnage that was to follow. Buriram attacked from the outset of the second-half and could easily have scored three times before Macena started the goal-blitz just before the hour mark.
Buriram attacked down the left and when the ball was half-cleared to the edge of the area, Macena collected it before sending a great left-foot shot into the far corner with the keeper helpless. Next it was Diogo’s turn to join in the fun in the sixty-fourth minute.
A long ball reached Seul Ki wide left and the Korean sent over an inviting cross which Diogo collected before firing home. The Samba party was in full swing two minutes later when a through ball down the middle allowed Macena to advance before curling a beautiful right-foot shot into the corner of the net.
Buriram were far from finished and went in search of more but had to wait until ten minutes from time to score again.Seul Ki collected the ball on the left before cutting inside to dink a delightful shot past the by now shell-shocked keeper’
Five minutes from time Macena completed his hat-trick when he latched onto a left-wing cross and found the net, albeit with the aid of a slight deflection to complete the rout. This was an astonishing performance by Buriram who played some amazing football and I’m sure Chonburi will be more than a little concerned ahead of their FA Cup match on Wednesday at the seaside.
