Buriram Golf Society president Peter Dempsey held a special competition at the golf club to mark the closing days of the 2016 season. A field of 16 players turned up for the 7am tee-off time.
The competition was a stableford with a secondary flag event running at the same time. It is an unusual format where the player who gets the furthest in the round when his handicap allowance expires is the winner.
Appropiately enough, it was the President who emerged as the winner when his handicap expired on the first extra hole. However, due to him shooting his best round of the year in the main event with a score of 38 points, the “flag event” was won by Tommy Jackson who got to just short of the 18th green.
Other scores worthy of mention were Colin Bradwell 35 pts, Martin Moyles, Tony Murphy and Tommy Jackson all 33pts. Excellent scoring, considering the blustery conditions.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Rod and Iain.
Back at the Irish Bar “Clubhouse” , following a sandwich buffet, Martin Moyles was presented with the most improved player of the year award. As ever, a number of players stayed on to chew the fat over their rounds or to have a few beers. (Or both !!)
