Buriram Times Christmas Scramble Players.

The Buriram Golf Society held their annual Christmas Texas Scramble at Buriram Golf Course on Friday, December 23. The event was once again sponsored by the Buriram Times with a record 12 teams taking part.

Teams consist of three players and all three players tee-off on each hole. The best shot is then selected and all three players play their next shots from that spot. This continues until the ball is holed. Each player must have at least three tee-shots selected.

The three players’ handicaps are added together and divided by three to gain a team handicap. Scoring is stableford with the highest total number of points declared the winner.

It was a shotgun start with teams starting from different holes, with holes 3,5 and 8 having two teams starting on them. This allows for everyone to finish the competition at the same time.

It was a perfect morning for golf with a cool breeze and a little bright sunshine. It is a very enjoyable format with little pressure on individuals and a chance for everyone to make a significant contribution to their team’s score.

There were only nine points separating the twelve teams (59 to 50) and as ever the caddies also enjoyed themselves, often getting very excited when a putt dropped. Thanks to Peter Dempsey and his team for ensuring the event ran incredibly smoothly.

Winners with a great score of 59 points, Nigel, Steve and Dave.

2nd with 58 points , Yuekka, Kevin and Marcos.

3rd with 55 points, Malcom, Tonny and Magnus.

4th with 55 points, Tony, Iain and Peter.

The players moved on to Jimmy’s Sports Cafe for a meal and presentation ceremony. As ever, Jimmy and his staff put on an excellent spread and the girls entered into the festive spirit.

Jimmy’s lovely ladies.

MC Peter Dempsey made a short speech before reading out the results and the nearest the pin winners.

Nearest the pin on 1 and 10, Greg Miles (and it was VERY near!)

Nearest the pin on 6 and 15, Graham Dresser
