Buriram province in Thailand’s northeastern region is set to take centrestage at a new international event, the inaugural Buriram Marathon, to be held on 12 February, 2017, at the Chang International Circuit- a world-class motorsport race track. Local and international runners from around the world have been invited to join the event.
Runners will experience a new running route from Chang International Circuit to Buriram Castle – a landmark of Buriram province which is situated between the iMobile Stadium and Chang International Circuit.
An objective of the event is to promote Buriram as a “Thailand’s Sport City Centre” and to make Buriram one of the best marathon stadiums in the world, and to be a destination that global runners will regard as a “must-do” run at least once in their lifetime.
The event has three race categories including a 42.195 km. full marathon; a 21.1 half marathon; a 10 km. mini marathon and a 5.3 km. fun run. The running route for full race covers Huai Chorakhe Mak, Khao Kradong forest park, cultural routes in the city and Buriram Castle.
The Buriram Marathon is organised by the Athletic Association of Thailand (AAT), Asian Athletics Association (AAA), Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Buriram United and the Buriram local authorities. It has also been approved by the International Association of Athletics Federations or IAAF and the Athletic Association of Thailand (AAT) under the supervision of the Athletic Association of Thailand (AAT), so it is said to be the very first world standard marathon race in Thailand.
