Chilling footage captures the moment an off-duty Thai police officer shot a Frenchman dead in Bangkok on Wednesday morning.
The picture shows Pol Senior Sgt Maj Kantapong Huadsri, wearing an orange shirt, pull a gun on 35-year-old Frenchman Malik Djamel, shooting him twice outside the Dunkin Donut shop on the ground floor of the Trendy Building in Bangkok.
Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Surachate Hakpal told reports the two men had earlier been involved in a fist fight at the Lucky Shot bar on Sukhumvit Soi 11/1.
The men, who were known to each other, started arguing when Mr Djamel’s Thai girlfriend began speaking to Huadsri.
According to Pol Lt Gen Hakpal, the argument then escalated to a fist fight, which Mr Djamel won.
As Mr Djamel and his girlfriend were returning to their condo located on the eighth floor of the Trendy Building, Huadsri reappeared with a gun, shooting the Frenchman in the chest and head.
Huadsri, who has now been charged with murder, initially fled the scene but later handed himself into police.
Huadsri, an officer at the Lumpini Police Station, has now been dismissed from the force, police confirmed.
Meanwhile, Pol Lt Gen Surachate Hakpal has instructed investigators at the Lumpini station to handle the case in strict accordance with the law and not try to assist their colleague, the Nation reported on Wednesday.
