An ex-soldier wanted by police for allegedly abducting a factory worker gave himself up to a combined police and army force which laid siege to his hideout in Nong Boonmark district of Nakhon Ratchasima on Sunday (Aug 13).
Tha Rua district police from Ayutthaya traced the fugitive, Polakrit Wiset, an ex-soldier, after he abducted his girlfriend, Ploynarin Pliphol, and went underground to a house in Tambon Nong Mai Pai of Nong Boonmark, belonging to his new girlfriend.
Ploynarin, 25, was abducted in front of a factory in Ayutthaya province in May 2014. An arrest warrant had been issued for Polakrit after footages from CCTV cameras showed that he was the suspect.
Tha Rua police with the cooperation of Nong Boonmark district police and troops from Surathampitak barracks were sent to Tambon Nong Mai Pai late Friday night (Aug 11) to lay siege to a house where Polakrit was believed to be hiding.
The officials surrounded the house to prevent Polakrit from escaping while his relatives were approached to help convince the fugitive to surrender. The siege lasted until Sunday afternoon when Polakrit emerged from the house and surrendered to the officials.
He later told the police that he killed Ploynarin, a factory worker in Ayutthaya, after kidnapping her because he was angry with her for trying to finish with him. He said he dumped her body in the jungle in Kaeng Khoi district of Saraburi province.
Polakrit was later escorted by the police to Tha Rua district for detention.
At about 8pm Sunday, police found burned human remains and clothes believed to belong to Ployanarin at the location.
