The men in black, pull up alongside westerners without a helmet and show them a fake FBI badge, and then indicate for them to stop. They charge the normal fee of 200 baht each (negotiable if there is a passenger) and drive off.
The scam started in Bangrak, a popular tourist area of Koh Samui, but has spread to other destinations in the tourist areas of Thailand.
One local ex-pat resident told the Samui Times, “These scumbags are giving the police in Samui a bad name”
It is unclear if the local legitimate police are currently looking into these incidents.
