Farang Community “Up In Arms” About New Firearms Regulations

Farangs banned from owning firearms.

Almost immediately after the announcement that foreigners will no longer be able to register a firearm, the farang forums were buzzing with cries of discrimination.

It is sad to see people reacting like children, claiming once again that it is a clear sign that we are not wanted or liked in this country.

Do the Thai authorities go out of their way to make us feel welcome and even loved? Of course not, nor will they ever, regardless of who is running the country.

What is the point of getting upset about something that would only affect a tiny minority of the community. Our American friends, not surprisingly, have been the most vocal.

A number of comments have gone along the lines of even though they have no wish to own a gun, they are outraged to be deprived of the right to do so. Utter garbage.

Any legislation that reduces the number of firearms whether it be Thais or farang is to be applauded. It is amazing how sensitive some people are. We know what the situation is here and it will never change.

We choose to remain in this country so why keep moaning about unfair treatment ? It is what it is and to be fair there have been some changes for the better in the five years I have been here.

Do all Thais want us here ? No, but name me a country where all immigrants are made welcome with open arms. Make an effort to integrate into Thai society and you will make some wonderful friends for life.

Sitting around a table in a farang bar moaning about Thailand, Thai women etc is not a recipe for a contented life. If you don’t like it, the airport is well sign-posted ! It is far from perfect here but it beats the hell out of the life I had before I came.
