So finally we know what the rise in excise taxes actually are. However, the lack of information from the government was disappointing to say the least. Too many vague statements did little to reassure people whose livelihoods were going to be affected.
Certain elements of the media also need to examine themselves very closely. Some of the articles predicting major increases were pure speculation based on hearsay and caused unnecessary worry and concern to some members of the licensed trade.
To most of us, it was obviously simply sensationalist journalism but you always have it in the back of your mind that “illogical” things do happen in Thailand.
If the exact information is not available in situations like this then wait until it is. Don’t make it up or spread rumours !
