Following a recent article on student violence, the government has repeated its determination to stamp it out after a brawl killed a female vocational student and injured four others.
This was the second outbreak of violence in the city involving young people.
Acting police chief Sanit Mahatavorn has ordered city police to compile lists of unruly, violent students in their areas. This is the first time lists have been made of students involved in fights.
People who urge on or support violent students also face the possibility of jail or heavy fines.
There is also a big move to make parents take responsibility for their children’s actions . They will be required to ackknowledge their misdeeds and pay 5,000 bht bail to secure their release.
This will be held for two years and for repeat offenders the money will be donated to a children’s charity.
There are also plans to set up camps so students can get to know other offenders and improve their social skills by interactive discussions and activities.
