The True South Project – Changing History
The True South Project is the opportunity of a lifetime as well as history in the making. The goal of the project is to build a team of 10 Thais to make the 1200 km journey from Union Glacier to the South Pole unassisted on foot. And thus becoming the first team ever from Thailand to do so, joining an exclusive list of only 19 other countries that have conquered this ultimate test of willpower. All of the finalists will also receive 1,000,000 baht for the charity of their choice.
This undertaking is no easy feat. While registration was open to any Thai national who met the physical requirements, the experienced adventure panel must ensure that the candidates are ready for the monumental task ahead.
This is why all the contestants will be pushed to their limits as they face a number of serious elimination challenges. The strongest competitors will then get the opportunity to take part in a number of workshops and challenges to train their body and minds to the utmost.
Some of the challenges include: skiing and camping in the deep snows of Japan, endurance and survival tests in the Canadian wilderness, and trekking across glaciers in Nepal.
The first Survival Challenge Completed!
The first step in finding candidates for the True South Project has just come to a close. The Survival Challenge was a grueling test of mental and physical strength designed to find the strongest candidates for the monumental undertaking ahead.
Contestants were given only 24 hours to complete the 100km course through Kaeng Krachan national park. If the sheer distance combined with the jungle heat and humidity weren’t already enough, the course featured a number of difficult obstacles that the contestants also had to overcome.
Next Phase – Expert Panel Selection
While this first leg of the journey certainly WASN’T a walk in the park, the next step involved lengthy questionnaires, physical testing and a profound interview by the expedition leader and several specialists. Hard decisions were to be made by the panel-members. And another selection round was done.
NOW: The bar will be raised!
With all this behind them, the true test for the remaining candidates is yet to come; a lengthy and intense training program. Most of which will take place under the supervision of highly skilled trainers with each specific fields of experience. This phase will be kicked off with an extreme 2 day ‘boot camp session’ starting April 28.
A special press conference will take place Thursday 27 at 13:00hrs at Pattana Golf Club & Resort.
Who will endure?
Only the fittest, mentally strongest and the ones with the most potential to contribute to the final team that will travel to the icy South Pole, will remain. This exiting story will unfold further during the next weeks, don’t miss it!
