Today on Wednesday April 20, 2016 the most extraordinary weather/climate change experience happened over the space of a few hours here in our home city of Buriram.

Over the past week or so we have all being sweltering in temperatures of over 40 degrees centigrade.

However, today at around 4.30 pm things changed. The skies darkened and the wind grew stronger with minor tornadoes crossing all over the area. As expected the rain started but to everyone’s surprise hail stones came down with the rain, causing shock, damage and surprise to the local residents who informed the “Buriram Times” that they had not experienced this before in the city.

Eventually the hail gave way to more torrential rain and a very local thunder storm. In turn, this knocked out several electric transformers around Buriram causing sensational explosions and fires.

By this time the streets had become rivers as the storm drains failed to cope with the excess water.

So basically within three hours, we had blazing sun and 40 degree centigrade temperatures, tornadoes, hailstones, thunder storms, torrential rain, floods and fires throughout the city.

Who said life’s boring in Buriram ?
