Tony Murphy, Society Captain 2016

The Buriram Golf Society celebrates its 2nd anniversary on the 30th of December 2016. The society was formed by our president Peter Dempsey, who has worked tirelessly, and I might add against some scepticism, to make it the success that it now enjoys.

It has become a multinational club, with playing members from England, Australia, Sweden, USA, Canada, Scotland, Denmark, Norway, New Zealand, Switzerland and occasionally Ireland and Wales. Having our base at Paddy’s Irish Bar,owned and run by committee member Rod Young, has been a great leg up for the club. It’s a great place to talk about those missed puts over a pint or two.

The club’s home course is Khao Kradong, while not being of international standard, it has its own tests, for the want of a better word, and we love it.

Also we have away day competitions, organized and run by committee member Colin Bradwell. They take place about every 6 weeks, and are a great success.

This week on Friday the 23rd we have a Texas Scramble, sponsored by the Buriram Times. The course is closed to the public, so that we can have a shotgun start, meaning we should all finish about the same time, then off to Jimmy’s Sport’s Cafe to imbibe.

Never forgotten, Neil Cameron, our first Captain, who sadly passed away earlier this year, after one hell of a battle. Old Na Na who could argue about anything, was a big part of the club’s inception and I feel he would be proud of its success. Though maybe with a few Na Na’s. God bless you Neil.

We look forward to the new year with optimism, and as captain for 2016 I would like to offer our soon to be captain for 2017, Colin Bradwell my congratulations and best wishes.
