
Extensive coverage is being given to the sale of land at the British Embassy in Bangkok.
The Embassy stands on 14 acres of land (35 Rai).
The land was bought in the 1920s when it was on the outskirts of the city and surrounded with paddy fields. After 90 years of urban growth it has now become a most valuable piece of real estate in the heart of Bangkok.

Inside the extensive grounds and gardens is a statue of Queen Victoria installed in 1903 “erected in loving memory by her loyal subjects in Siam” Many Thais regard Victoria as a fertility symbol and leave flower necklaces on the statue’s plinth.
The Foreign Office plans to place a parcel of land on the market which comprises of 4 acres. It is reported that Property Consultants acting for the British Government are advising that the land should be offered for sale at around 30 million pounds sterling (1,500,000,000 Baht)
