The Labour Ministry is concerned about the extent of gambling amongst factory workers. They have initiated a campaign to boost awareness of the dangers , targeting factory workers in particular.
A survey taken three months ago revealed that football gambling is rife in factories , often leaving workers with the serious consequences of large debts.
In the survey of 1,o50 workers, a staggering 70% admitted to betting on football matches. Bets of over 10,000 bht on a single game are common according to the report.
The Ministry is hoping to educate people on the dangers of all forms of gambling , which can often lead to more problems when loans are taken out at extortionate interest rates in a futile attempt to pay off debts.
