A dramatic rescue unfolded near the floodgate of the Chi River in Chaiyaphum province when a landslide occurred. Five local residents narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation as the earth suddenly gave way, causing several motorcycles to tumble into the river.
This unexpected event took place at Bueng Lahan, specifically the Yai Kaew canal in the Nong Bua Ban sub-district of the Chatturat district. Prompt action was taken by volunteers from the Nong Bua Ban Subdistrict Administrative Organization and Sawangthammana rescue volunteers, who rushed to assess the situation.
The landslide resulted in multiple motorcycles plunging into the water near the floodgate of the Yai Kaew Canal, leaving a pile of soil where residents’ bikes got stuck. Witnesses mentioned that three additional motorcycles slid down with the landslide and were submerged underwater.
In total, there were five people at the scene during the incident. One of them, a middle-aged man, fell into the water as the ground collapsed but managed to scramble to safety. All five individuals were in a state of shock and helped each other cross to the secure side of the riverbank.
Among the survivors was Chom Khenleam, a 40-year-old resident of Chaiyaphum province, who explained that they had been fishing in the area regularly. On that particular day, they had moved closer to the river due to the abundant fish. They were caught off guard when the ground suddenly collapsed, submerging their motorcycle. They cautiously made their way back to safety, expressing their shock at the unprecedented experience.
Another survivor, 43-year-old Adisak Prawai, witnessed a man falling into the water and waited for him to resurface. He attempted to move his motorcycle but, before he could do so, the ground collapsed again. Fortunately, he didn’t fall into the water and was shocked by this unprecedented event, as reported by KhaoSod.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the landslide was caused by declining water levels that led to ground collapse.
