The national Meteorological Department has issued a warning about heavy rainfall in multiple regions of the country for the entire week. They are urging residents to remain alert to changes in weather patterns. The downpours are expected to affect the lower Northern, Northeastern, Central, Eastern, and Southern regions, which could potentially result in flash floods and runoff in low-lying and steep areas.
The department attributes the heavy rainfall to a strong southwest monsoon and a low-pressure trough that stretches from lower Vietnam through Thailand and extends to Myanmar. Given the impact of these weather systems, residents in the affected areas are advised to exercise caution and be prepared.
To account for the anticipated adverse weather conditions, the department has recommended that small boats in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea remain onshore until Tuesday, May 30th.
Looking ahead to May 31st through June 3rd, the strong southwest monsoon is expected to persist, covering the Andaman Sea, southern mainland, and the Gulf of Thailand. As a result, heavy rain is anticipated in specific areas of the Central Plains, as well as in the East and South of Thailand.
Additionally, the department has reported that Typhoon Mawar, currently positioned approximately 600-700 kilometers east of Luzon in the Philippines, is moving westward. However, it is expected to veer towards Taiwan and is not predicted to directly impact Thailand.
Residents are strongly advised to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and advisories, follow any instructions or precautions issued by local authorities, and take necessary measures to ensure their safety during this period of inclement weather.
