A video of a man bearing a striking resemblance to a policeman going berserk yelling at members of the public has been confirmed as a cop attached to Chana Songkhram police.
His station chief has asked for understanding as the well- respected officer is going through a tough time with his wife amid all the pressures of his demanding job.
The video of the officer’s behaviour on Saturday caused a storm on social media with many jumping on the bash the police bandwagon.
The footage showed a man looking like he had been imbibing of some local spirit. He was pointing aggressively at people’s faces and swearing all down the famous tourist strip.
At one point he ran up to pick a verbal fight with a male member of the public and only the intervention of a good Samaritan prevented escalation.
Two men with him tried to calm the situation and put him on their bike but he jumped off and started having an altercation with another man in the street.
Chana Songkhram station chief Phitak Sutthikun said: “Yes, he is one of our own”.
He blamed stress for his officer’s antics.
“He is very serious about his job,” explained Phitak,”and he does a great job. Everybody praises him all the time.
“But such is his dedication to his duties that he has no time for his family which causes ructions with his wife at home.
“Before this incident he had a big row with his wife which only added to his stress at work. Unfortunately he was unable to control his temper.
“So some concerned colleagues decided to take him over to Khao San Road to calm him down. There he met some acquaintances of his wife and that set him off.
“That is what you saw on the video clip,” he claimed.
Phitak continued: “He is a good man and usually doesn’t touch a drop of liquor. Please be fair to him”.
The chief said that the officer will be given some leave to mend things with his wife and he has instructed some colleagues to help him out at this difficult time.
Unless you have experienced what the pressure of domestic problems combined with a stressful job can do to you, then probably you will not have much sympathy for this unfortunate man.
However, those that have will understand and hope that he is able to overcome his problems.
