The Prime Minister has issued an appeal for calm as the amount of dissent increases for people not wearing black or white during the 30 day mourning period.

He stressed that this is a time for people to come together, not to cause confrontations. The PM is aware that there are a number of circumstances which might preclude people wearing the appropiate colours.

Shops are selling out of black clothing at an incredible rate and of course there will be those who simply can’t afford new clothing. Clothes have to be washed and people may not have enough of them to wear every day.

He went on to say that it is entirely acceptable to wear a black or white ribbon, fastened to the upper arm or chest. He only asks that the colour of clothing be sedate.

This should be noted by “foreigners” who are not expected to wear mourning colours but it should be no great hardship to tone down the brightness of their clothing.
