The furious poor old timers in Sa Kaew are pointing at the offending product that was out of date and crawling with worms.

As can be seen in the photo some are pointing and some are just holding their noses at the stink. Some are even doing nose holding and pointing.

One woman was not present – she ate the fish and is currently indisposed.

Unusually in such cases the brand of fish was named as “Yort Chef” (top chef) brand – one that the aging recipients of the packages had barely heard of.

The parcels were handed out at a mobile relief clinic in the eastern Thai province and were intended to help the poor and elderly.

But when they got home and opened the rusty cans the contents stank and worms were crawling out.

Jamrat Janthakat, 62, was not happy. He said it was disgraceful that the Thai elderly were treated like this.

“If the fish was out of date it should have been thrown away,” he said, “not palmed off on us and made to look like charity.”

Some 100 parcels were distributed on Thursday. One woman, Thorg-orn Utmuang, 61, made the mistake of trying the fish.

Her husband Buntham, 64, said the effect was immediate and that she was on the loo all day suffering.

Calls to the people who had distributed the packages were going unanswered as they were probably all out delivering more.
