A tragic accident involving a pickup truck occurred yesterday on Route 202 in Suwannaphum District, Roi Et Province. The family, returning from a relative’s ordination ceremony, was involved in the incident. The driver, 51-year-old Suriya, momentarily nodded off behind the wheel, leading to a devastating crash that claimed the life of his 72-year-old mother, Pimpa.
The Isuzu pickup carrying the family of four swerved off the road and rolled over several times. Pimpa, a resident of Si Sa Ket Province, was thrown from the vehicle and tragically killed at the scene. Suriya sustained minor injuries and was found beside his mother’s body, while three others, including his wife and 10-year-old son, were injured and promptly taken to Suwannaphum Hospital by local emergency responders.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Udomsak Salajun, the investigating officer at Suwannaphum Police Station, provided details, mentioning that the family was returning from Roi Et Province after attending a relative’s ordination ceremony. Suriya briefly dozed off while driving, causing the truck to veer off and overturn. Pimpa, seated in the cab, was thrown out and fatally injured in the accident.
Fortunately, Suriya and his son, both wearing seat belts, along with his wife tightly holding onto the seat, sustained only minor injuries. The Suwannaphum Rescue Unit, Suwannaphum Hospital, and local law enforcement promptly arrived at the scene to assist and begin initial investigations.
