Thai Couple Hit By Train While Posing For Photos

A young Thai man and woman were both hit by a train and suffered serious injuries after posing for a picture on a railway line at the Samsen Railway Station in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A friend of the pair and witness to the accident, Amornthep Tipnongwaeng, 25, told officers who arrived at the scene that the trio had been drinking alcohol near the station when Walailak Sukama, 28, and Amnaj Nawantib, 25, decided they wanted a photo with a train about to leave the station, whilst posing they were hit by an inbound train.

Officers said it is unclear at this time why neither of the victims noticed the approaching train.

The incident happened at 4am on Thursday morning and Pol Captain Wisanusak of the Samsen Police department was called to the scene shortly after the accident.

Speaking about the incident Wisanusak said that Walailak has had to have her leg amputated after being struck and dragged underneath the train, Amnaj was struck by the train and rendered unconscious.

Amornthep told police all three of them had been drinking for around an hour before the accident happened.

Police are checking security camera footage before deciding whether to bring charges against those involved.
