Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is scheduled to visit communities affected by flooding in Ubon Ratchathani, Yasothon, and Roi Et today. The extent of the flooding in these areas is still being assessed, and strategies for providing assistance are being developed.

According to government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke, heavy rains have been ongoing, leading to floods in Thailand. These floods have affected more than 1,600 villages across 28 provinces since September 26.

The 61-year-old prime minister will be accompanied by Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chaiya Promma, and Deputy Interior Minister Kriang Kantinan on his tour. The itinerary includes a meeting regarding the flood situation at the Regional Irrigation Office 7 in Ubon Ratchathani and a visit to the hydro-measuring station at the Seri Democracy Bridge in Ubon Ratchathani’s Mueang district.

During his visit, the prime minister plans to meet with flood victims and distribute essential supplies before heading to the Phibun Mangsahan district, which has been affected by the floods.

On Saturday, October 7, PM Srettha and his team will visit Ban Sai Ngam village in Yasothon and a drug rehabilitation center in Roi Et before returning to Bangkok.

The prime minister’s visit aims to inspect flood management measures in the Chi and Mun river basins and assess the assistance provided to residents impacted by the floods.

In Ubon Ratchathani, reservoirs and other areas are at 89% of their total capacity, making many areas vulnerable to flooding. Water storage in Yasothon and Roi Et is at 65% and 37%, respectively.

The Thai floods have affected 13,200 households in provinces including Tak, Kalasin, Ubon Ratchathani, and Trat, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Kalasin, in particular, has seen 322 villages in 10 districts submerged. Weather forecasts predict heavy rains in the upper regions of the country until Saturday.
