Thailand is preparing to honor the memory of King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on December 5, a day that holds significance as National Day and Father’s Day in the country. To commemorate his impact on Thai culture and society, the Ministry of Culture has announced a range of cultural and religious events across the nation.
Culture Minister Sermsak Pongpanich has outlined the planned activities, which encompass Buddhist rituals, community service initiatives, and showcases of King Bhumibol’s musical prowess, particularly in jazz. The Fine Arts Department will host a seminar focusing on an economy sustainable under the principles inspired by the King, along with a musical tribute featuring his compositions.
A jazz concert at the Thailand Cultural Center, organized by the Department of Cultural Promotion, will feature performances by renowned Thai orchestras and choirs, celebrating the artistic legacy of the King. Simultaneously, the Department of Religious Affairs will arrange community service programs at Wat Phra Ram 9 Kanjanapisek, aligning with the King’s values of spirituality and community engagement.
Marigolds, symbolizing the King’s Monday birth, will be extensively used in floral decorations. These flowers, believed to bring prosperity and harmony, serve as a poignant representation of the King’s ideals of simplicity and sufficiency.
Sermsak is slated to take part in various ceremonies, including an alms-giving event at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground and a wreath-laying at the King Bhumibol Adulyadej Memorial Park. The Ministry is encouraging Thai citizens to engage in acts of kindness, echoing the King’s legacy of selflessness and commitment to the Thai people.
