The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Thailand shared a report detailing the outcomes of the New Year Seven Days Road Safety campaign. From December 29th to December 31st, there were 1,150 road accidents, resulting in 128 deaths and 1,151 injuries.
Kanchanaburi experienced the highest incidence of road accidents (44) with 43 injuries during this three-day period, while Bangkok recorded the most fatalities (8).
On the third day of the campaign (December 31st), there were 424 road accidents, causing 51 deaths and 416 injuries. The main causes of these accidents were primarily excessive speeding (37.26%) and drunk driving (32.78%).
Motorbikes were involved in the majority of accidents (86.91%), with 37% of these incidents happening on national highways. Most accidents occurred between 12:01 A.M. to 12:10 A.M. (8.02%).
Kanchanaburi, situated in the west of Thailand, had the highest number of accidents (18 times), while Nakhon Si Thammarat recorded the most injuries (20). Nakhon Phanom and Udon Thani provinces had the highest number of fatalities, each reporting 4 deaths.
