Mahannop Surana Known as Oat to his friends wrapped up the R2M championship at Buriram Chang International Circuit at the weekend.
Needing 3rd place to secure the championship he was set a hard task as qualification problems meant he had to start from 26th on the grid in the 6 lap race.
He made short work of this however, getting up to 6th place by the end of the first lap by virtue of his skill and speed into and out of the 12 corners on the circuit .He got his deserved 3rd position on the 5th lap and held it to the finish to win the championship by 18 points.
He will be presented with the championship trophy at an awards evening in Bangkok in January.
This is his first season racing and he rides for Coco Golf Racing Team from Chiang Mai, owned by Simon Rolstone. He originally rode for a Bangkok team which folded earlier this year.
Simon saw the potential of the 17 year old; also Oat being a family friend, he gave him the sponsorship needed to continue racing this season and hopefully into the future where I am sure he will amass even more Championship wins.
We wish him every success in 2016 and look forward to meeting him and his friendly team again in Buriram.
Motorcycle racing at any level is an expensive pastime and as Coco Golf is the sole sponsor, I’m sure Simon would appreciate any additional help from the motorcycle trade or any other organization that will get publicity from this up and coming star.
Coco Golf has offices in Chang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin and have been in business since 1993 organizing golfing in Thailand & SE Asia.
Steve & Colin.
