The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning about an increase in thunderstorms that will impact 37 provinces in Thailand, including Bangkok. The heavy rainfall expected in various areas could potentially lead to sudden flooding and flash floods, particularly in hilly regions and low-lying areas.
This warning is a result of the intensified southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, as well as the presence of a low-pressure system along the coast of Myanmar and the monsoon trough passing through northeastern Thailand and Laos. These weather conditions are causing rough sea conditions, with wave heights reaching up to three meters in the upper Andaman Sea and over two meters in areas affected by storms.
The general public in the affected areas is advised to exercise caution and be prepared for the hazards posed by heavy rainfall and the accumulation of rainwater. Boat operators in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are also strongly advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas affected by thunderstorms.
According to the weather forecast for Thailand, from 6 am today until 6 am tomorrow, different regions can expect varying levels of thunderstorm activity. The percentage of areas affected by rainfall ranges from 30% in the north and central regions to 70% in the northeastern region. The eastern and southern (east coast) regions will experience thunderstorms in about 60% of their areas. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are also anticipated in certain provinces throughout the country.
