Brake failure blamed for crash.

A police lieutenant colonel who has played takraw for the Thai national team was one of five people injured in a pile up in Nakorn Pathom yesterday.

A ten wheel truck carrying refrigerated chicken piled into the back of traffic waiting at the lights at the Nong Kha Yang intersection headed in the direction of Bangkok.

Pictures showed the aftermath with a tourist police Toyota Altis forced under the wheels of a minivan with another tourist police car in front.

The van carried stickers of the Ministry of Defense and is thought to have been escorted by the police vehicles.

The driver of the police vehicle behind the van was taken to hospital along with Pol Lt Col Seubsak Phanseub attached to the Kanchanaburi tourist police. Seubsak – who has played international Takraw for Thailand – was travelling in the back and suffered a cut lip.

Three other members of the public travelling in a pick-up were taken to hospital.

The driver of the chicken truck Manote Suaylam, 29, blamed brake failure.
