Amidst the gloom of many of the stories reported on here, it’s good to have something that puts a smile on your face. (unless you’ve fallen victim to this master thief!)
The story of a Thai man stealing underwear in Kamphang Phet involved a sting, a manhunt and finally a statement that beggared belief.
The thief of more than 50 items of ladies underwear told the cops his victims could have it back, none of it was damaged.
Trouble started for a coin-op launderette business in Muang district of Kamphaeng Phet when many female customers started complaining that their bras and panties were going missing.
Some even blamed owner Naphawan Jai-eua, 29, for stealing the items and business was suffering as a result.
Convinced that the thief was coming in from outside Naphawan decided to install CCTV and lay a bait of some enticing smalls to attract the lingerie “collector”.
In no time he arrived in a Ford pick-up and was clearly seen entering the launderette and choosing some items carefully before leaving with a smile on his face.
The cops were immediately contacted and the man – named only as “Doh” – was arrested near Wat Na Lom after a brief manhunt.
Six pairs of underwear were found in his truck but a search of his house found 50 more.
“Doh” begged the police and media not to name him saying that relatives that have the same surname in the area would be embarrassed.
He said that he was head of a team of workers and had split up from his wife for four years. In mitigation he said that he had only targeted the one shop.
He said on this occasion he was passing and saw some attractive women loading up their washing – this put him in the mood for some sexual gratification.
But it was his final statements at the police station that had Naphawan and the cops aghast – Doh said he had kept all the items in tip-top condition.
The victims were welcome to have them back as none were damaged in any way.
I’m sure they were queuing up to reclaim their lingerie.
