In the early hours of this morning in Muang district, Khon Kaen, tragedy unfolded as a Canadian man and his Thai wife were fatally stabbed by a neighbor. Michael Nixon, 54, and his wife Anurak, 47, were discovered deceased outside their home. The alleged assailant, a 36-year-old local cotton candy roti vendor named Kachornsak Panyadee, surrendered to the authorities, wielding the murder weapon—a one-foot-long knife.

The couple was found lifeless in front of their two-story residence. Upon investigation, Nixon was found with three stab wounds on his chest and abdomen, while Anurak had been stabbed in the abdomen. The incident occurred around half past midnight at house number 380 in Moo 10 village, Tambon Ban Thum, prompting a swift response from law enforcement, forensic teams, and rescue personnel following an emergency call.

Kachornsak, hailing from Chaiyaphum’s Ban Thaen district, confessed to the police that he had used the knife to fatally assault the couple. Deputy Chief Investigator Chaiwanich Kamkamool disclosed that ongoing disputes over parking spaces between the couple and Kachornsak seemed to be the root cause. The altercation escalated on the night of the incident when the couple had foreign guests over, exacerbating the parking issue.

Waiting until after midnight for the guests to leave, Kachornsak approached the couple’s house armed with the knife. Upon the wife answering the door, he attacked her. When Nixon came to her aid, he, too, fell victim to the assailant’s violence.

Kachornsak was promptly apprehended and charged with murder. Investigations into the underlying motive continue, with authorities planning further interrogation to gather details for a comprehensive report to be presented to the prosecutors. The crime scene, the couple’s residence in Muang district, Khon Kaen province, was cordoned off by the police.
