A sedan driver mistakenly shot a truck driver on the 304 Nakhon Ratchasima-Kabin Buri Road in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Isaan province on December 12. After the incident, police and rescuers arrived at the scene, encountering the 60-year-old gunman, Sittichai Wataukana, and the 25-year-old victim, Thawatchai Tornongna. Thawatchai had suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm, with his 22-wheel truck also bearing a bullet hole, and a .38 gun bullet shell found on the road.
Sittichai, the gunman, parked his black sedan nearby and awaited the police to surrender. He confessed to mistaking Thawatchai for another truck driver who had provoked him earlier on the road.
According to Sittichai, he was driving on the left side when a truck came close from behind, signaling him to move over by flashing its headlights. While Sittichai complied, he felt furious. He then sped up, positioned his car in front of the truck, intending to confront and shoot the other driver.
Thawatchai, the victim, revealed that he was transporting goods to a customer in Prachin Buri’s central province. Witnessing a conflict between a black sedan and another truck spanning 2 kilometers, he tried to distance himself from the situation. As the sedan and truck shifted lanes, Thawatchai accelerated to the right lane in an attempt to escape but heard a loud noise on his car window, realizing later that he had been shot.
After getting out of his vehicle and confronting Sittichai, Thawatchai learned about the mistaken identity and the conflict between Sittichai and the other truck driver. Despite Sittichai admitting his mistake and waiting for the police to surrender, Thawatchai received no apology for the incident. The severity of the situation is emphasized by the potential fatality if the bullet had hit other parts of his body.
