Buriram Airport Plans to Become International

The Buriram Governor Seri Srihatrai at a recent meeting with the Transport Minister Akom Termpittayapaisit sought financial support for further infrastructure in the region and funding for the construction of a passenger terminal building and the extension of the airport runway to accommodate international flights.

The growing popularity of cultural tourism and international motor sport events has increased the number of visitors significantly over the past five years. The Transport Minister said his ministry will look into the budget proposal and discuss with the Ministry of Finance the possibility of providing financial support to the province. Mr Akom expressed his belief that it should take no longer than two years for the budget to be allocated.

Earlier this month Nok Air added another early morning flight from Bangkok to Buriram which with the afternoon flights from Air Asia and Nok Air, gives Buriram three scheduled flights per day for the first time.
