Buriram Golf Society ended their first year by meeting at their clubhouse ( Paddy’s Irish Bar and Outback Grill) for inaugral Captain Neil Cameron (right) to hand over office to Handicap Secretary Tony Murphy. After their usual round of Friday golf,  many of the players met for the hand-over ceremony.

Society President Peter Dempsey gave a welcome but brief speech highlighting how the Society has grown and developed despite there being a few doubters when the Society was formed. The number of competitors on golf days rarely falls below double figures and the Texas Scrambles have become very popular and much looked forward to.

Peter went on to say that Captain Neil had done an excellent job, showing total committment despite not enjoying the best of health.Neil took his role seriously and could always be relied upon to give his opinion on any issue that arose. He played in most of the events ,though sadly a recent shoulder problem has curtailed his participation.

Neil is pictured showing off his farewell gift and Society members will understand and apppreciate the script on the shirt ! The retiring Captain’s efforts have been remarkable and he is a hugely popular character amongst all the members. Neil then replied to Peter’s comments, stating how much he enjoyed his year in office and welcomed in-coming Captain Tony Murphy.

Tony thanked Neil and added that he hoped he could continue with the good work already done by Mr Cameron. The next item on the agenda was the draw for the Singles Matchplay Knockout which is the latest Society venture. Some interesting matches were drawn, details can be found on Buriram Golf Society Facebook and in the “Clubhouse”.

Once the formalities were concluded Paddy’s popular landlord Rod Young and his staff put on an excellent buffet of several types of superb meat and jacket potatoes. Naturally, a few beers and glasses of wine were being consumed and the new Captain made a popular start to his tenure by buying everyone a drink. Cheers Tony !! However, he did point out that barring a lottery win, it wouldn’t be repeated.

We at the Buriram Times wish Tony a happy and successful year.
