Line up against Bangkok Glass.

A stunning free-kick two minutes from time saw Buriram’s unbeaten  run come to an end. After controlling the first-half and leading 1-0, a strange substitution saw Buriram hand the initiative to the home side .

Coelho was replaced by Suchao and little was seen of Buriram as an attacking force after that . If Coelho wasn’t injured, then it was a major tactical error as it left Diogo to plough a lone furrow up front.

As in many Buriram games, the referee did them no favours as two Glass players should have seen red. Glass’ Campos squared up to Jakkaphan in the second-half and not once but twice pushed his head into the Buriram skipper’s face. However, not even a yellow card ensued. It is to Jakkaphan’s credit that he did not react.

Next Chatree was shown a yellow card for a dreadful tackle and almost immediately launched into another wild challenge which should have been punished by a second yellow and then a red.

Two very bad decisions which were inexcusable particularly as Campos went on to fire in the winning goal right at the end.

Buriram started well and took the lead in the 18th minute when Diogo crossed from the left for Coelho to get in a strong header which the keeper could only push up into the air before palming the ball into the net as he attempted to clear.

The visitors continued to dominate without really creating clear-cut chances until just before the interval Diogo made space for himself in the box but his low shot lacked power and it was a comfortable save by the keeper.

Buriram had a great chance to increase their lead in the 49th minute when Coelho played Diogo in down the right but with two players screaming for the ball in front of goal, the Brazilian elected to go for the near post and the chance was gone.

After 56 minutes Buriram brought on Suchao for Coelho and it appeared they were going to settle for holding on to what they had.Big mistake.

The home side had a great chance to level after 62 minutes when a free-header found the side-netting. However, Buriram’s reprieve was short lived as almost immediately Glass attacked down the right and when the ball was pulled back for the totally unmarked Supachai, he drilled a low shot beyond Siwarak into the far corner of the net.

Buriram replaced Narubadin with Supachok in the 67th minute and then the altercation between Jakkaphan and Daniel occurred. Four minutes later the second potential red card incident took place, but as mentioned previously no action was taken.

Glass were the better side now and after a dreadful mistake by Ottesen, Siwarak came to Buriram’s rescue with a brilliant save.

Nine minutes from time Diogo made progress down the left before cutting inside and unleashing a goal-bound shot which was somehow deflected wide. Shortly after Supachok was replaced by Supachai and it is to be hoped that it is not a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

Two minutes from the end of normal time Glass were awarded a contentious free-kick some twenty-five yards out. Campos curled a great shot over the wall and just inside the post, leaving Siwarak with no chance.

That wasn’t the end of the drama as Buriram won a free-kick out right in the final minute of stoppage time. Korrakot sent over a perfect cross for Ottesen to thump a header against the crossbar.

Defeat was hard to take for Buriram and they certainly did not get the rub of the green. However, they did allow Glass back into the game although the home side have much to thank the referee for.

Next game is Ratchaburi at home on Sunday May 7 6pm.
