The Muay Thai boxing lesson for Ratchaburi police is the brainchild of Pol Maj-Gen Arnuparb Srinuan, commander of Ratchaburi police, after several policemen were killed or injured when they tried to intervene in a scuffle or when confronted with violent offenders.
Pol Maj-Gen Arnuparb presided over the opening of the training course on Tuesday for about 50 policemen. Also present at the event was Assistant Professor Charnchai Yomdit, president of the Muay Thai International Study Association.
Trainers are drawn from Chom Bung Ratchabhat University.
At the training session on Tuesday, the trainees were given a lesson in dealing with three trouble-makers who resisted police arrest.
This is an astonishing piece of news . It is incomprehensible that ALL police are not taught the art of self-defence as part of their training. It is difficult to take in and it is another example of how common sense appears to be in very short supply in this country.
