Yesterday morning at 6:30 a.m., a bus operated by Sri Mongkol Transport Co. Ltd lost control and collided with an electrical pole on the bypass road in Khon Kaen. The bus, which was traveling from Kanchanaburi to Nong Khai, veered off the road and overturned, resulting in injuries to several passengers.
The bus had the license plate number 10-8613 from Nakhon Ratchasima, and the accident happened near the Non Rueang intersection in Ban Kho, Khon Kaen.
The 58-year-old bus driver, Sithichai Boonsan, sustained severe injuries, including two broken legs and a torn lung from the impact. Emergency services from the Khon Kaen Highway Police, Sa Wang Foundation, Khon Kaen Samakkhi Uthit, and Sri Nakhon Hospital quickly responded to the scene, providing prompt medical assistance to the injured passengers and transporting them to the hospital.
Passengers on board the bus mentioned that it had picked up passengers from the Khon Kaen 3 bus station and was on its way to Udon Thani and Nong Khai when the accident occurred. The slippery road conditions caused by heavy rain likely contributed to the driver losing control. Initial reports indicate 29 minor injuries, with nine individuals requiring hospital treatment.
The bus company promptly arranged for a replacement bus to take the uninjured passengers to their intended destinations. One passenger shared their experience leading up to the accident, noting that the bus was not speeding as it left Khon Kaen 3 Bus Station. However, as it reached a curved section of the road, the bus began swaying uncontrollably, eventually colliding with the electric pole and overturning.
Passengers collaborated to break the bus windows in order to escape. One passenger, who had experienced two accidents, credited his lack of injuries to wearing an amulet of Luang Pu Thuat from Wat Chang Hai, Pattani province. Interestingly, this revered amulet was also placed at the front of the bus and remained undamaged during the incident.
