A Good Samaritan taxi driver found a passenger’s wallet left in his car and drove all the way back to the Suvarnabhumi international airport to hand over the wallet to a security guard who managed to return it to the owner just 5 minutes before his plane took off.
Mr Mongkol Chankaew, a security guard at the airport, said that the cabbie, Pongpisut Promkote, deserved commendation for his Good Samaritan act which, he noted, not only demonstrated the good spirit of taxi drivers but will also help promote the image of the country.
Upon receiving the wallet, containing about 10,000 baht in various currencies, Mongkol searched for an ID card in the wallet and found a business card of a Mr Charles Mann, a Briton.
He called the mobile phone on the card to report about a missing wallet and Mr Mann said it was his wallet and he was about to depart for Myanmar at the departure lounge.
Mongkol and another security guard, Saichon Charoenchai, then sprinted to the departure lounge to meet with the Briton who was waiting anxiously because his plane was to depart shortly.
Finally, he got his wallet but not without thanking profusely the two guards and the Good Samaritan cabbie.
