From now right through to next February national museums and historical parks around Thailand will be open for free for everyone, Thais and foreigners.
This includes Buriram’s own Phanom Rung. In fact you could do an amazing road trip of the 10 historical parks in as many provinces.
If you don’t fancy travelling too far, next nearest is of course the old capital, Ayutthaya. Well worth a visit even on a rainy day.

Sukohothai’s impressive ancient grounds are also open to the public for Free. ” Sukhothai was an early kingdom in the area around the city Sukhothai, in north central Thailand. It existed from 1238 until 1583. The old capital, now 12 km outside of New Sukhothai in Tambon Mueang Kao, has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage historical park.”
In Bangkok, the free access includes places such as the main Bangkok National Museum, Royal Elephant National Museum and National Museum of Royal Barges.
This announcement was made by the Fine Arts Department on Thursday.
Free entry at all sites excludes fees for vehicles, parking, bicycle rental and other costs.

50 baht a day for this high performance touring bike in Ayutthaya
In this time of national reflection and toning down of entertainment, its a good time to make the most of free entry and it’s hoped this will increase visitor numbers
